Getting Caught Up...

Okay, let me just get through my emails and I promise I'll write.   I swear half an hour max.

I should really put a load of laundry in, get my car washed, watch that movie on the DVR I've been saving for six months, read any of the twelve books I just bought, walk the dogs, go see the new Pixar movie, look for recipes for this week's dinner...

The list goes on.  I've talked about it before - procrastination.  I've posted pictures with motivational phrases equivalent to  "just do it" yet I still find myself doing that "one last thing" that needs to be done before I sit down and write.  And when I finally do sit, my hubby says "hey let's watch a movie" and the laptop shuts without an ounce of guilt.

On the other hand, there are times when I surprise myself.  Last night I went to bed at 11pm.  I wasn't tired, but that's what we do in the house that gets up early even on the weekends.  I let about a half hour of staring at the ceiling go by and realized "Hey dummy, your brain wants to work, let's go see what happens."

I wrote until almost 1:30am.  An entire chapter mind you and it was exhilarating.  I had to force myself to stop.  I love those moments.   Luckily, it was Saturday night and not the middle of the week when I have to get up for the day job.

I guess my take away from this is if you find something that makes you happy, whether it be a hobby or a career, do whatever it takes to immerse yourself in it.  The laundry will always be there.  The movie will still be on the DVR.  Don't get caught up in the things that keep you from doing what you love.
