Top 5: Guilty Pleasures Movie Edition

Movies have always been my passion, and it shows in the way my taste ranges from Oscar winners to cult classics. The first movie I remember watching in theaters was "The Blues Brothers" at the age of ten—how cool was it to see a rated-R movie so young? Since then, movies like The Outsiders, The Breakfast Club, and Purple Rain have been integral in shaping who I am today.

While I enjoy a variety of films, there are a few that I can watch repeatedly without getting tired of them. Here’s my Top 5 guilty pleasure movies that I just can't get enough of:

5. The Warriors

Warriors…come out to playyyyy

Released in 1979, The Warriors is an action thriller that captures the gritty, dangerous vibe of New York City's gang culture in the late '70s. The plot follows a gang as they battle their way back to their home turf, and it’s a film with an iconic style and unforgettable scenes. From the Baseball Furies to Ajax, played by James Remar (who, by the way, I thought was super hot), the movie is an unforgettable ride with themes of survival, brotherhood, and social commentary.

4. Empire Records

This 1995 coming-of-age comedy-drama is set in a small, independent record store and follows a group of young employees trying to save the store from corporate takeover. With its underdog theme and the nostalgia of a time when record stores were everywhere, it's a feel-good movie that celebrates youth, rebellion, and the love of music. Plus, who doesn’t celebrate Rex Manning Day every April 8th?

3. Burlesque

A recent addition to my list, Burlesque (2010) is a musical drama featuring Christina Aguilera and Cher. While the plot is somewhat predictable, the film is full of dazzling musical numbers and performances that never fail to entertain. With themes of ambition and empowerment, it’s a glamorous, fun watch that I find myself returning to often.

2. Inception

Christopher Nolan’s Inception (2010) is a mind-bending science fiction film that delves deep into the world of dreams and reality. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, it’s a complex, visually stunning film that reveals new layers with each viewing. This groundbreaking movie blends thrilling action with intricate themes, making it a modern sci-fi masterpiece that I just can’t get enough of.

1. Xanadu

My all-time favorite, Xanadu (1980), is a musical fantasy that blends '40s nostalgia with '80s pop culture. Starring Olivia Newton-John and featuring a soundtrack by Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), the movie is pure campy charm. It’s a roller-skating, feel-good movie that I can’t help but love, despite its initial mixed reviews. It's the kind of film that makes me want to put on a pair of skates and dance to the beat of "Magic."
